Von’s Shining in Video

Good Things/Small Packages
I was downtown shopping yesterday and had lunch at Von’s. A friend had recommended the small plates to me so I thought I would give it a try.
It was nice to get away from the noise of the mall yet still be close by. I had two “small plates” and my bill was $5.00!
After the sticker shock of holiday gift purchasing it felt like I had made one very good buy. It was just the right amount of food for me and the mini Thanksgiving turkey dinner was great. The turkey was super moist and it was a warm, yet not too heavy a meal for a cold day.
If you want to go shopping and have lunch try Von’s. At least the meal will be reasonably priced!

The 3 C’s: Cobb salad, clam chowder and convenient parking
If you are coming into or out of the airport and need a place to eat, try Von’s sister restaurant.
Sharp’s is very close to hotels and the airport and has the same menu and great food as Von’s in downtown Seattle.
I was waiting to pick up someone at the airport and instead of trying to find a spot in the crowded cell phone lot, I went to Sharp’s and waited for the call there.
I had a great Cobb salad and a cup of their fabuluous clam chowder. The smoker and roaster are full of meats and chickens slow roasting. Though I opted for a salad today, their ribs are a favorite of mine.
I had a great lunch in the warmth of the restaurant and then picked up my guest without having to wait.

Bird is the word
We were surfing the foodie blogosphere today and came across Parkerpages, a site from a Vancouver, B.C.
And what was it about this blog that piqued our interest, you ask?
It was a big shout out for Von’s, especially our delicious roast turkey and Flav’r Gusto chicken (not to mention our ginormous Personal Pitchers of fine, frosty draught beers).
We love it when people write about the good times and great food they enjoy at Von’s and Sharp’s.
Keep on blogging on!

Fans of every stripe
Went to Von’s tonight and it was really lively. It was Husky game day and the restaurant was a sea of happy, red shirted Nebraska fans and not so happy Husky fans! It was a great atmosphere and very good food. I loved my calamari caesar salad but the best endorsement came from a Nebraska fan seated next to me who commented on how wonderful her beef was – coming from someone from Omaha where beef is everything, that was a real compliment.
It looks like Von’s is a post game favorite eatery for locals as well as the visiting team fans.

Smokin’ HD chickens at Sharp’s
Take a gander at roasting and smoking whole roaster chickens at Sharp’s.
Chowda is a Pleasa!

A creamy bowl of Sharp's clam chowder.
There’s clam chowder, and then there’s clam chowder.
I had a bowl of Sharp’s clam chowder, and it is wicked awesome tasty.
It’s totally packed with clams, not a bunch of filler like so many other places serve.
Glad to top the bowl with classic Westminster Oyster Crackers — they are the most.

Heading back for ribs

Ribs and chickens slowly smoking in Sharp's roaster.
I stopped in to Sharp’s recently for lunch before flying out from Sea-Tac.
I had a great Signature Salad to keep things on the lighter side for travel, but I could not keep my eyes off those pork ribs smoking away ahead of the dinner hour (along with some rotating whole chickens above them).
The rising smoke and those slowly-cooking slabs of meaty goodness called to me.
I’ll be back to Sharp’s when I fly back to Seattle. I intend to dig in to some tasty ribs!

Here’s to great beginnings
We’re natural-born romantics here at Von’s, so it was great to play a little part in something lovely recently.
A couple visiting Seattle from Colorado got engaged right here in Von’s.
It was so sweet — the then-boyfriend got down on one knee and proposed just like it’s supposed to be done.
We announced the successful event on the loudspeaker and everyone clapped and cheered for the couple.
The new groom-to-be told us he had been planning to pop the question the entire trip and he chose Von’s because it’s a Seattle classic.
We like his style!
We get a lot of bachelorette and bachelor parties in here — which are always fun — but this was truly a special treat for us.

Fire it up!

House-made Blazer pepper sauce.
Holy smokes …
It always hits me when I add some of Von’s house-made Blazer pepper sauce to my dinners — this potion means business.
That’s what happens when those devilish habaneros get involved.
It reminds me of that old Eddie Murphy comedy line: “Now that’s a fire!”
But don’t get me wrong, it’s not too hot, but it’s a delicious addition with a definite kick.
